Overview of role:

The Security Operations and Threat Intelligence Specialist (Technical Lead) is responsible for leading the operations incident response lifecycle from preparing IT and business teams through to post incident activities and supporting Senior Analysts in their delivery of other cybersecurity capabilities such as cyber threat intelligence, threat hunting, forensic investigations, insider threat, fraud, and vulnerability management. The Specialist will build strong relationships with internal business units and IT teams to continually improve our incident response processes and tools. They will collaborate with leadership on our strategic roadmap, to improve preparations, detection and response time, and engagement with business units outside IT.

Key deliverables / responsibilities include:

  • Works with broad expertise within Cybersecurity Operations with expert knowledge in incident response, incident handling and security tools. Uses skills to contribute to the development of company objectives/principles and achieve goals in creative and effective ways
  • Applies advanced knowledge of cybersecurity incident response to coordinate and communicate with the larger business and is considered a top resource across the organization
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge in cybersecurity, with a strong understanding of technology and business needs for the development of pragmatic and creative solutions
  • Regularly makes decisions under minimal guidance that have a significant impact on the organization's financial and business operations
  • Advises management on significant matters affecting incident response preparedness, evolving threats and vulnerabilities and provides recommendations
  • Work assignments involve highly complex issues where the analysis of cyber threats and associated intelligence requires an in-depth evaluation of intangibles or unprecedented situations
  • Subject matter expert who possesses advanced knowledge of incident response and the impact to business and the aviation industry.
  • Develops assessment plans and measures of performance/effectiveness, and conducts strategic and operational effectiveness assessments for cyber events and tabletop exercises
  • Independently determines methods and procedures to address new attack vectors and often coordinates activities and provides technical guidance to others
  • Achieves goals in creative and novel ways, operating with significant autonomy
  • Guides and mentors staff and provides advice to management on highly complex/strategic issues
  • Often provides input to management into personal and team performance to improve organizational effectiveness
  • Drives continuous improvement by devising new methods and procedures using strong analytical and inductive thinking to address the evolving threat landscape
  • Introduces specialized concepts to develop innovative security solutions. Serves as an advisor, mentor, and/or helps drive new initiatives

Experience and qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Degree and 7+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

  • Information security certification (such as CISSP, CEH, GCIH, etc.)

  • Strong working knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply common frameworks and models used for Information Security, such as MITRE, NIST, CSF, COSO and CobiT

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of network security, application security, data security and cloud security domains

  • Experience in organizing and delivery of cybersecurity incident response training and simulations (tabletop exercises) to test and improve response capabilities

  • Budget and resource management to ensure effective incident response and day to day operations.

  • Requires expert problem-solving skills and advanced interpersonal and communication skills including influencing others
