Overview of role:

We are excited to offer a unique opportunity to join our team as a Portfolio Manager for Disruption Management, driving the evolution of our IROP (Irregular Operations) workflows and solutions. As we continue to grow and deepen our collaboration with IT, we're looking for a visionary leader to spearhead strategic and operational initiatives that will transform how we support our guests, people, and operations during disruptions.

In this role, you'll oversee the development and execution of projects aimed at enhancing WestJet's ability to manage and mitigate operational disruptions efficiently. Your responsibilities will include planning, prioritizing, and delivering these projects to ensure they align with our organizational goals, support our guests, empower our people, and strengthen our operational resilience. You will also play a crucial role in fostering seamless communication and collaboration across teams, driving innovation and consistency in our approach to disruption management.

Key deliverables / responsibilities include:

  • Program Oversight: Manage the project portfolio for disruption management programs, including building a corporate roadmap, cross-departmental prioritization, project timelines, risks, constraints, dependencies, and resource capacity planning.
  • Project Delivery: Oversee the initiation, planning, execution, and closure of projects, ensuring they meet the defined scope, time, cost, and quality constraints.
  • Stakeholder Management: Provide leadership, coordination, and communication of cross-functional projects, initiatives, and strategies across operational teams and teams within the WestJet Group. Lead Executive, VP, and stakeholder steering committees to ensure alignment and progress.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks in project delivery and implement appropriate mitigation strategies to minimize impact.
  • Performance Reporting: Monitor and report on the progress of projects, including status updates, performance metrics, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Oversee the development of automation solutions, and self-serve tools to optimize IROP workflows.
  • Ensure each product within the disruption management program is developed to support WestJet's capabilities in handling and mitigating operational disruptions.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovation in guest rebooking, and disruption management and guest experience.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key partners and vendors involved in the IROP ecosystem.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, or equivalent business experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in portfolio or program management, preferably within the travel, technology, or airline industry.
  • Proven track record of leading projects that involve automation, workflow optimization, and guest rebooking solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to communicate technical or complex subject matter in easy-to-understand language.
  • Ability to work effectively, demonstrate flexibility and set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with project management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Irregular Operations (IROP) processes and airline operations is a strong asset.
