WHAT WILL YOU DO

Reporting to the General Manager, Terminal Construction, the Project Manager I is responsible for the overall management of the projects assigned. This requires the Project Manager I to perform duties essential to effective project management.

The projects will include construction or restoration where the result is a tangible improvement to the airport facility in alignment with our corporate strategy. These projects can be anything from the construction and renovation of various airport facilities, such as passenger terminals, security checkpoints, and parking facilities. The range of projects can vary from small and technically straight forward to very large and technically complex - often exceeding several million dollars in construction value. The Project Manager I will likely oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

Our Terminal Construction and Civil Construction teams are always on the go and work very closely with many internal and external stakeholders to ensure the continuous development and improvement of our international airport.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop project charters with internal clients, report progress to internal clients, supervisors, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Conduct design and status review meetings.
  • Monitor schedules, estimate design and construction durations, set and communicate project milestones.
  • Responsible for the management of all costs on individual projects and all elements within a project including establishing project budgets, tracking and updating project costs, and forecasting monthly cash flows for each project.
  • Identify potential risks during project charter phase and implement risk management plans.
  • Act as the central point of contact for all information distribution regarding a project including extensive communication with the numerous project partners and participants (i.e. regulatory agencies, government, emergency services and internal departments) that may be affected by specific project activities.
  • Work closely with Airport Operations to ensure detailed operational plans & schedules are prepared, communicated and managed.
  • Manage project challenges and operational difficulties that are complex and conducts work in environments that are currently overextended or near capacity; completing this work within very stringent and tight operational windows.
  • Prepare Terms of References and related technical and legal documentation, and subsequently direct the contracting process in order to retain Architectural, Engineering and other specialized consultants.
  • Participate in consultant selection for the Authority with respect to engaging consultants while verifying that the consultant has met the requirements of the scope of work and controls against unwanted extra work ("scope creep").
  • Plan, organize and deliver the activities related to Construction Tenders through collaborative work with the Supply Chain Department, and then manage the construction through all phases of the project, including quality control of materials and construction methods.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
  • Post-Secondary education in Engineering, Architecture or a Technical School graduate in a Construction related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of project life cycle and PM methodologies
  • 3+ years of experience managing construction projects.
  • Experience with managing projects with budgets in excess of $1M.
  • Strong working knowledge of current construction cost estimating methods.
  • Applies conflict management skills and expertise to persuade and negotiate effective resolution of issues.
  • Meet requirements of a safety-sensitive position with driver's license. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present info to relevant stakeholders at all levels
  • Being self-motivated, ability to work independently to meet deadlines and produce quality results, and coordinate tasks.

WHAT OPTIONAL ELEMENTS SUPPORT YOUR APPLICATION (all are assets)

  • Professional designation or working towards designations like P. Eng. PMP, PMI-ACP or designations that are associated with the position will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in cost estimating, construction or inspection will be considered an asset.
  • Bilingual in English or French.
