Overview of role:

This role ensures the continued regulatory certification of all simulator training devices through software modifications, repairs, maintenance and quality testing. This role is the main technical contact with Transport Canada and outside support vendors. The goal is to exceed Transport Canada qualification standards while maintaining a safe and respectful working environment. Key deliverables include:

· Develop, install, validate and document software and hardware modifications

· Troubleshoot, diagnose, debug and repair failed systems in normal and IROP situations

· Ensure training devices are kept up to date with Aircraft configurations and software loads

· Ensure that proper configuration control is being maintained on all devices

· Ensure that current backups are maintained on all Simulator computers

· Perform recurrent Qualification Tests (QTG's) and evaluate results to ensure they meet regulatory requirements, remedy any issues found

· Present QTG results to regulatory authorities for evaluation

· Prepare for and participate in recurrent evaluations with regulatory authorities

· Monitor Simulator deficiencies to ensure they are prioritized properly and corrected in a timely manner

· Identify and track recurring Simulator issues

· Consult with colleagues to formulate working plans to correct problems

· Assist Simulator Technical staff in performing preventive and corrective maintenance as well as other general duties

· Assist and instruct Simulator Technical staff as required in performing software tasks

· Assist outside vendors and contractors in updating simulator systems

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

· Strong communication skills both verbal and written

· Complete daily operational testing of training devices

· Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Simulator Technical Services

Experience and qualifications:

· Post-secondary related technical diploma or equivalent combination of education and work experience is required

· Completion of the WestJet Software Technician Apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience is required

· A computer science degree or software engineering degree is considered an asset

· Experience with CAE, Flight Safety and L3 Simulators is an asset

· Experience in simulator maintenance and repair or equivalent technical work is an asset

· Knowledge of Flight Simulators and regulatory requirements is an asset

· Demonstrated success in accomplishing accurate work under tight deadlines

· Proven success at managing multiple tasks and changing priorities

· Advanced knowledge of Computer programming languages (priority give to C, C++, Fortran)

· Advanced knowledge of computers, operating systems and software (CentOS, Windows XP, Windows 2000, MS Office)

· Intermediate ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams

· Intermediate knowledge of aircraft systems, avionics and theory of flight

· Basic knowledge of hydraulic theory and systems

· Basic knowledge of mechanical and electro-mechanical theory

· Ability to work with hand and shop tools

· Must be able to lift 50 pounds

· Must be able to work day and night shifts 24h/7d/365y

· Able to bend, kneel, crawl, stoop, and climb repetitively

· Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal
