WHAT THE ROLE ENTAILS:
Reporting to the Director, Flight Operations, the SMS Investigator will support the continuous improvement of safety within the Flight Ops team including, conducting investigations related to safety occurrences and incidents involving flight operations, compliance with Safety Management System (SMS) policies, procedures and risk controls. The SMS Investigator will monitor and report on the implementation of strategies, initiatives and best practices, as directed by the Director, Flight Operations, and will play a role in incident investigations and subsequent mitigation strategies. Your expertise and attention to detail will play a crucial role in promoting a proactive safety culture and enhancing the overall safety performance of the organization.

Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive investigations into safety occurrences and incidents related to flight operations. This includes but is not limited to flight crew errors, aircraft incidents/accidents, technical malfunctions, operational deviations, and other safety related events.
Utilize Flight Operations Safety related data to identify trends, patterns, and potential hazards in flight operations.
Conduct research to stay up to date on industry best practices, safety regulations, and emerging safety issues.
Monitor and report on the implementation of programs and procedures to mitigate Crewmember and aircraft incidents. Ensure all investigations are carried out in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
Conduct risk assessment of potential operational hazards.
Develop mitigation controls of identified hazards.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the SMS by providing valuable feedback, participating in safety-related meetings, and proposing process enhancements.
Serve as a liaison between Flight Operations and teams within Corporate Safety.
Promote safety awareness among staff and flight crew members.
Support ground event investigations.
Support root cause analysis and corrective action development to improve operational safety performance.
Other duties as assigned by the Director, Flight Operations.

Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Safety, Aeronautical Science or a related field preferred.
3+ years of experience within a CARs 705 environment.
Experience within Flight Operations.
Proven experience in conducting safety investigations and risk assessments within the aviation industry.
Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and associated principles.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify safety trends.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders at all levels effectively.
Detail oriented with a focus on accuracy in documentation and reporting.
Familiarity with relevant aviation regulations, standards, and best practices.
Strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to make data-driven decisions.
Ability to perform under pressure and within fixed time constraints.
Able to travel and/or work variable hours, flexible shifts, including holidays and weekends.
Available for occasional travel.
Must be able to obtain a RAIC (Restricted Area Identity Card).
