WHAT WILL YOU DO

Reporting to a Manager, Operations - Airport, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure and efficient operating environment for the airport community, passengers and visiting public at one of Canada’s busiest airports.

WHATS THE TEAM LIKE

Our Terminal Operations team is passionate about airport operations and ensuring that our terminal operates efficiently and effectively. The Terminal Operations Specialists are the eyes and ears inside the Terminal for the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), responding to emergencies, gathering information, interviewing, preparing reports and monitoring and enforcing airport operations on a 24/7 - 365 basis. Our Terminal Operations Specialists are high performers who make substantive change every day.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES

Audit & Oversight of Airport Operations

  • Conduct daily security patrols, audits, and inspections of the air terminal building to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
  • Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards and operational risks.
  • Report incidents, concerns, and recommendations to the Integrated Operations Center (IOC).
  • Monitor compliance with aviation security laws, regulations, and directives.
  • Oversee corrective action plans and recommend security improvements.
  • Review and audit Terminal Operations Plan and standard operating procedures.

Security & Safety Preparedness and Response

  • Act as On Scene Controller (OSC) for security, safety, and emergency incidents.
  • Respond to security violations, breaches, customs issues, and unwanted visitors.
  • Conduct Threat Risk Assessments in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Handle safety incidents including medical emergencies, fire alarms, and asset damage.
  • Maintain strong relationships with enforcement agencies for emergency preparedness.
  • Ensure proper use of video surveillance for security monitoring and investigations.

Terminal Operations & Customer Support

  • Provide customer service to passengers, stakeholders, and visitors.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders (e.g., CATSA, CBSA, USCBP) for regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor passenger flow, screening queues, and border control areas.
  • Support irregular operations (IROPS) and assist in crowd control and queue management.
  • Oversee terminal construction to ensure compliance with security and operational plans.
  • Report facility maintenance issues to the IOC for resolution.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation including Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS), Canadian Aviation Security Regulations (CASRs), Aerodrome Security Measures (ASMs), and Occupational Health & Safety legislation
  • Ability to handle stress and deal with crisis situations in a calm manner and be able to assist in managing others in a stressful environment.
  • General knowledge of the airport environment and airport operations
  • An ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, airport stakeholders and Authority staff
  • Basic knowledge of:
    • Technical and report writing specifications.
    • Quality Improvement processes and techniques.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret and understand standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with difficult and escalating situations/people.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional verbal & written communication skills.
  • A high degree of attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
  • Physical ability to walk repetitively for long distances for prolonged durations

WHAT OPTIONAL ELEMENTS SUPPORT YOUR APPLICATION (all are assets)

  • Bilingual in English or French.
  • Formal training in Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200 preferred
