ABOUT COULSON AVIATION

Coulson Aviation is a global aerial firefighting company that operates in Canada, the USA, Australia, and Chile. We produce, maintain and operate a fleet of large aerial firefighting aircraft consisting of both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. With our fleet, we can run rapid aerial fire suppression, including initial attack and extended attack protocols. We are a growing organization that has been in business for 63 years.

Due to our company growth and expanding footprint, we are looking to add an Engine Shop Manager in Port Alberni, BC.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

The Engine Shop Manager reports directly to the Director of Maintenance (DOM). The Engine Manager will oversee and be knowledgeable in detail, all aspects of engine maintenance, planning, provisioning, and parts tracking and throughput of the shop

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Engine Shop Manager focuses on 2 key areas:

Engine Shop

  • Work daily to ensure fleet provisioning of gas turbine engines and large components to maximize aircraft up time and minimize potential downtime or AOG’s.
  • Extensive knowledge of existing inventory, to report back to the President, VP of Maintenance, DOM and Fleet Managers (FMs), at any time on status for planning, including monitoring current inspection status and coming due reports to mitigate issues.
  • Responsible for creating a comprehensive plan for using existing inventory to maintain operational status, and serviceable spare status. This means engines on wing and off.
  • Initiate and continuously maintain effective communications and successful working relationships with other functional areas within the organization and with outside vendors.
  • Maintain knowledge of all vendors, and suppliers, to obtain quotes for services and repairs when needed. Coordinate with the stores department to ensure your deliverables are met.
  • Any parts removed during work scopes will need to be sent to vendors for replenishment of stock, in a timely manner.
  • Must be proficient with managing Work Orders, ordering parts, requesting services and reviewing quotes, often from multiple vendors to determine best value.

Staff Management

  • Participate in selection process for new hangar support staff
  • Review and approve timesheets
  • Delegation of monthly, weekly and daily tasks
  • Provide and delegate on-the-job training
  • Ensure all mandatory training requirements are being met
  • Performance management
  • Discipline
  • Conflict resolution
  • Direct supervision of hangar support staff

Additional responsibilities, tasks, and jobs as required as they arise for CAUSA and CAL.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10 years experience of engine O/H and engine shop experience
  • 5 years field related experience
  • Experience in the aviation industry with gas turbine engine shop management, T-56 engine experience preferred
  • Minimum high school diploma
  • Ability to read and interpret applicable technical manuals
  • Experience working in a shop and field type environment to finish all work to the highest standard possible, along with tech support.
  • Experience with planning and control of routing out modules and components for repairs and overhaul.
  • Experience working directly with vendors and planning future engine requirements.
  • Carrying out work to specified Transport Canada and FAA regulations, in accordance with applicable manuals for documenting work and identifying parts.
  • Documenting all related work IAW company requirements.
  • Ability to perform all needed engine work.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong team player and good interpersonal and communication skills.
