Securiguard is currently seeking a Public Safety Officer/Shift Supervisor who is dedicated to supporting public safety concerns and operations at YVR - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Job Duties - PSO

  • Conduct regular patrols of all public areas of the ITB and DTB, in constant search for trespassers, vagrants, and individuals suspected of criminal activity.
  • Utilize negotiation skills and judgments to de-escalate situations, always maintaining non-physical intervention.
  • Enlist, when necessary, the assistance of the RCMP when faced with a potential endangerment to the security and safety of customers or employees. This may include assault, theft, threatening behavior, loud and abusive language, or public nuisance.
  • In accordance with the Trespass Notice Program, remove persons from the Airport property who are engaging in activities that are determined to be prohibited by the YVR Airport Authority. These activities include, but are not limited to: solicitation, loitering, causing a disturbance, vagrancy. Issue Trespass Notices or verbal warnings as required.
  • Respond to operational requirements as dispatched by the Airport Operations Centre (YVR Ops) or the Security Operations Centre (SOC), including but not limited to: Unhoused , intoxicated individuals, public disturbances.
  • Monitor public area retail stores for suspicious activities and report specifics to the Operations Centre.
  • Report unattended baggage to the Security Operations Centre (SOC), secure the area if required, and then await the assistance of a Securiguard patroller.
  • Identify and remedy potentially unsafe situations and communicate such events and resolution to the YVR Operations Centre.
  • Attend to incidents post-security only when requested by SOC, by the Security Supervisor, or YVR Ops.
  • Proactively seek out and address the concerns of passengers in need of assistance. Provide timely intervention, sound analysis, and conflict resolution skills to achieve customer care.
  • Assist the Terminal Duty Officer (TDO) in responding, when directed, to situations including but not limited to washroom alarms, medical calls, intoxicated individuals and security breaches.
  • Provide ongoing security risk and threat assessments and report potential risks or concerns to the day of operations staff.
  • Communicate incidents and issues in a timely matter if there is potential to negatively impact normal airport operations. This may include congestion involving passenger queuing at check-in counters, congestion at security points, or building maintenance issues.
  • Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the Airport Watch Program

Job Duties -Shift Supervisor

  • Respond to all airport emergencies under direction of the Airport Authority Shift Manager
  • Investigate all security violations and breaches, interview witnesses and prepare complete and concise reports.
  • Complete performance logs on security personnel and provide coaching and guidance through Corrective Action Reporting and take necessary action to correct identified performance and/or training deficiencies.
  • Complete daily Shift Supervisor logs identifying significant security incidents and/or any ongoing issues relevant to Airport Operations and Security
  • Attend daily Airport Operations meetings and provide daily Shift briefings personnel.
  • Provide operational support and guidance to the Airport Authority Shift Manager on all Aviation Security related matters.
  • Proactively monitoring adherence to Airport Authority programs and policies, and reporting as requested
  • Provide ongoing security risk assessments and threat assessments and report potential risks (non-immediate) or concerns to the Airport Authority
  • Perform service audits to ensure staffing is appropriately in place and performing functions within expectations of the Airport Authority and Contractor
  • Develop tools and documents to generate Security Month End Reports
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures for all security classifications.
  • Liaison with the Airport Authority AVSEC Department to develop policies and procedures.
  • Take part in Risk and Threat Assessment with the Airport Authority
  • Supervise team of security personnel in discipline and daily operation
  • Familiar with local, state and federal Aerodrome Security rules and regulations
  • Ensure full operation of the access control points and Security Operations Centre
  • Develop and maintain positive relations with tenants, contractors, local law enforcement, community and groups or associations that benefit the company.

Job Requirements

  • Valid Security License with the province of British Columbia
  • Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
  • Ability to obtain D/A AVOP certification
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License with the province of British Columbia with Clean Drivers Abstract
  • Ability to work twelve (12) hours, rotating days and evenings (overnight)
