IMP Aerospace & Defence's Canadian Search and Rescue Helicopter program has provided all aspects of support to Canada's fleet of Cormorant Search and Rescue (SAR) CH-149 helicopters for over twenty years. Operating from across Canada at three Main Operating Bases, Gander NL, Greenwood, NS, and Comox, BC and headquartered in the Cormorant Support Centre in Halifax, NS, the program provides comprehensive, turnkey In-Service Support to Canada's Cormorant helicopters. This unique program provides the RCAF with a full suite of all levels of support to this critical 24/7/365 mission.
The Apprentice Technician (M, E, or S) performs first and second line aircraft maintenance on the Cormorant Helicopter under guidance and supervision of journeyperson technicians, in support of our Canadian Search and Rescue operations.
As part of their development to journeyperson, apprentices will be enrolled through the Canadian Council for Aerospace and Aviation (CCAA) or a similar institute and utilize a log book supplied by CCAA or similar institute for development tracking/certification purposes. Apprentice technicians shall graduate to journeyperson status IAW the timelines established through enrollment with CCAA or a similar institute. Duties for the apprentice include conducting On Job Experience (OJE) and On Job Training (OJT) for Servicing Tasks, Elementary Tasks and Work, including aircraft documentation, inspection, removal, cleaning, repair, installation, adjustment, testing and certification (release) of aircraft mechanical, structural and electrical systems and components and ground support equipment.
