Position Overview:

The Director, Human Resources builds business understanding of HR strategies, policies and programs by providing advice and counsel in all areas of Human Resources including: labour relations, performance management, recruitment and retention, talent management, succession planning and diversity. Reporting to the Vice President, Contracts and HR for Aerospace and Defence, and as a member of the senior management team, the Director will advise the team on how best to align the HR strategies with the Company's goals and objectives.

What You Will Do:

  • Understand the Business Unit's business goals, objectives and operating environment and develop and implement a Human Resources plan to assist the Business Unit in meeting its goals and objectives.
  • Lead and participate in employee relations functions such as dispute resolution, discipline, recruitment, employee communication, etc.
  • Drive continuous improvement of functional processes to maximize full potential of all resources.
  • Incorporate change management methodology into HR planning and integration practices to facilitate a framework for the achievement of desired goals and objectives.
  • Anticipate and plan for future workforce fluctuations based on Business Unit strategies.
  • Meet operational expectations by effectively managing priorities and deliverables while ensuring HR solutions are implemented in an integrated, efficient and timely manner.
  • Work with the operational management team to ensure that their HR requirements are met and to help build a working environment conducive to high levels of employee commitment and engagement.
  • Reinforce appropriate application of HR policies, standards and procedures taking into account the Business Unit's philosophy, legislative requirements and industry best practices.
  • Provide operational input as a member of the IMP Group's Global HR Leaders Team.
  • Participate in collective bargaining, including acting as Chief Negotiator when required.
  • Research and provide recommendations with respect to strategies, processes and positions for collective bargaining.
  • Administer and interpret collective agreement. Receive, investigate and process grievances.
  • Manage Business Unit annual performance review process.
  • Maintain current knowledge on legislative and industry changes and labour relations decisions which may impact the Business Unit.
  • Consult with Corporate Legal Department on Human Resources and Labour Relations issues with potential legal implications.
  • Ensure Business Unit compliance with all legislated programs (i.e. Health & Safety, Employment Equity).

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in human resources or business, industrial or labour relations, or related field and a minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in management level human resource positions.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in collective bargaining and collective agreement administration.
  • Experience in a production/manufacturing environment would be an asset.
  • CHRP designation is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, analyze, and problem solve complex issues in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Takes initiative and ownership of tasks and projects and follows through to completion.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of products.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently, orally and in writing, to a wide scope of potential audiences.
  • Exceptional negotiation, interpersonal, organization, planning and communication skills.
  • Results oriented work style with advanced analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with using metrics to measure and report progress.
  • Ability to work independently as well as work in, and lead, a team.
