Key responsibilities include overseeing passenger processing, baggage and cargo handling operations, and handling financial aspects of airport operations. The role often requires working remote across various stations in the network. The position demands strategic planning to address operational challenges, support business growth initiatives, and maintain regulatory compliance. Additionally, the Regional Manager leads investigations, manages corrective and preventive actions and fosters a culture of continual improvement and optimization in passenger, ramp and cargo management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee and continuously improve the airport customer experience, including check-in, passenger processing, customer service, aircraft servicing, and ground handling.
  • Ensure compliance with both ATW and BTW processes and procedures, prioritizing safety and regulatory standards while championing improvement initiatives.
  • Manage financial and budgetary aspects of airport operations, including regional profit and loss analysis, ongoing cost reduction reviews, and oversight of purchase orders and invoices.
  • Provide on-site support at various stations to address delays, staffing issues, and irregular operations management, including regular review and oversight of third-party contracts.
  • Conduct regular assessments of airport services, compliance with regulations, baggage operations, and financial metrics to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee safety management and quality assurance initiatives, driving continuous improvement in airport operations.
  • Lead and direct the local airport operations management team, fostering an environment of safety, efficiency, and exceptional customer service through clear performance goals.
  • Ensure adherence to domestic and international regulations, as well as Company and customer requirements.
  • Oversee third-party handling services, including contract negotiations and performance evaluations to optimize service delivery.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for all areas of airport operations including customer satisfaction, on-time performance, safety and cost management .
  • Partner with the Training & Standards team to develop and implement airport Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure timely training for front-line employees.
  • Support departmental labor relations, including contract negotiations, discipline, and grievance processes.
  • Provide valuable insights for performance analysis and strategic planning from an airport operations perspective.
  • Prepare and manage departmental expense budgets to ensure profitable operations while identifying areas for cost optimization.
  • Conduct risk assessments and investigations in response to Hazardous Operations Incident Reports (HOIRs), ensuring the development and implementation of effective corrective and preventive action plans to address operational and cargo handling issues.
  • Strengthen the emphasis on cargo operations by ensuring they align with safety standards, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction, integrating these priorities into the core responsibilities of the airport team.
  • Develop and implement quarterly safety, operational, and security audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies.
  • Conduct quality assurance audits to guarantee that customer expectations are consistently met.
  • Implement and maintain a robust continuous improvement program, fostering a proactive culture of optimization across all areas of responsibility.
  • Set clear goals for front-line managers, monitor their performance, and ensure accountability and development.
  • Promote the professional growth and training of team members to enhance operational capabilities.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Emergency Response team.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • Post Secondary Education (4 years)
  • Eight (8) years of previous experience
  • Strong knowledge of aviation regulations, security and safety standards, and airport operating procedures
  • IATA diploma in Aviation Security, as asset
  • Proficient in Windows, Word and Excel
  • Superior Sabre skills an asset
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, resources, and projects effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Experience managing a unionized workforce
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate
  • Possesses a solid understanding of the business and customer environment
  • Experience with developing and implementing procedures
  • Must be willing to travel extensively
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktitut a definite asset
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Pass in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada
