Reporting to: Director, Human Resources

Duties and Responsibilities

Interested candidates should be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

Disability Management and Work Accommodations:

  • Provide guidance on occupational and non-occupational injury or illness policies and programs;
  • Administer disability benefits, including short-term, long-term disability, and worker's compensation programs and facilitate case resolution;
  • Manage complex cases, ensuring timely and effective handling;
  • Prepare case management action plans, permanent medical restriction approvals, medical consultant reviews, and complex case file reviews;
  • Develop and implement work accommodation policies and procedures to support employees that require work accommodations;
  • Work with employees, managers, union representatives, insurance providers and healthcare providers to facilitate reasonable accommodations;
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of accommodation programs and make necessary adjustments;

Return-to-Work Programs

  • Design and manage return-to-work programs to support employees returning from leave;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create individualized return-to-work plans;
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies and collective agreements;
  • Track and report on the success and outcomes of return-to-work initiatives;


Employee Communication and Engagement

  • Develop and deliver communication strategies to promote understanding of disability management and benefits programs;
  • Conduct benefits orientation sessions for new hires and ongoing training for existing employees;
  • Address employee inquiries and resolve issues related to disability management and benefits;


Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Analyze disability management and benefits data to monitor trends, utilization, and employee satisfaction;
  • Prepare regular reports on benefits program performance and recommend improvements;
  • Utilize data to make informed decisions on benefits plan design and changes;


Project Management

  • Lead disability management and benefits-related projects, such as system implementations, and policy/plan updates;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution;
  • Manage timelines, resources, and deliverables for benefits initiatives;


Benefits Strategy and Design

  • Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive benefits strategy aligned with Company objectives;
  • Conduct market research and benchmarking to ensure competitive benefits offerings;
  • Assist with the design of an innovative benefits programs that meets the diverse needs of employees;


Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)

  • Assist with the oversight and administration of the Employee Assistance Program;
  • Promote the EAP to employees and provide information on available resources;
  • Monitor utilization and effectiveness of the EAP and make recommendations for enhancements;
  • Collaborate with EAP providers to address employee needs and ensure quality service delivery.

Skills and Qualifications

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • Three (3) years post secondary education;
  • Five (5) years previous experience;
  • Solid understanding of federal legislation including the Canada Labour Code, Canadian Human Rights Act, Workers' Compensation, and Health and Safety legislation;
  • Knowledge of benefits design, administration, and compliance;
  • Knowledge of disability management, work accommodations, return-to-work programs, retirement plans, and EAPs;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential issues with discretion, tact and diplomacy;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written & verbal) and conflict resolution skills to deal effectively with multiple stakeholders;
  • Proven ability to identify sensitive situations and recognize the impact of potential solutions;
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results tactfully and through collaboration and influence;
  • Adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced, team-oriented environment while ensuring accuracy, confidentially and effective time management;
  • Strong client focus and excellent professional judgment, sound analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills;
  • Able to work independently under broad management direction while maintaining interdependence locally and with other departments;
  • Committed to continuous improvement and display a high level of initiative, creativity and enthusiasm;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with HRIS preferred;
  • Experience working in a unionized environment an asset;
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset;
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
