Profile

Reporting to the Director, Core Engineering, you are responsible for planning and directing all aspects of Aerostructures engineering activities of the Core Engineering team for all aircraft supported by De Havilland and ensuring that all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformity with the established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Lead the Aerostructures team in setting expectations and delivering effective, efficient, and innovative engineering solutions
  • Assess demands on the engineering team applying consideration of size project, complexity, engineering disciplines, schedule, risk, and other supporting functions required.
  • Develop and maintain an engineering team capable of delivering the principal functions and work capacity necessary to execute engineering projects
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to create solutions that meet their needs
  • Manage the delivery of engineering services considering priorities and the capacity and demands of the team and secure necessary support to complement the engineering team.
  • Provide execution oversight, metric-based performance management, and reporting for engineering activities.
  • Ensure application of professional standards and company processes are followed in accomplishing work activities.
  • Ensure that safety and airworthiness of the fleet is prioritized in providing engineering solutions.
  • Apply existing processes and develop new processes for engineering activities and hold individuals accountable for following them.
  • Apply project management and systems engineering practices and processes to deliver project outcomes.
  • Coordinate the approval of engineering data and support the airworthiness approval process as needed.
  • Responsible for negotiating, developing and adhering to departmental budget

Relationships

  • Reports to: Director - Core Engineering.
  • Leadership Responsibility: Provides direction and support to Aerostructures DADs, and engineering team members
  • Direct reports include Chiefs of Design, Interiors, Liaison, Stress, Materials and Processes, Ground Test, and Principal Engineering Specialists for Structures and Occupant Safety
  • Internal Interactions: All internal Engineering disciplines, Supply Chain, Quality, Customer Support, Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Production, Finance, Programs, Sales, Contracts/Legal, Aftermarket, and Business Development.
  • External Interactions: Engineering service providers, customers, maintainers, material vendors, test facilities, regulatory authorities, educational institutions

Outcomes & Results

  • Development of a results-oriented engineering team that supports across business units, product lines and programs ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of solutions from the team meet defined performance requirements
  • Ensure the depth and breadth of engineering capabilities enable leadership in the development of new products and support of existing products into the future
  • Continuity of engineering capability employing strategies of skills development, career development, cross-training, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Engineering activities consistently provide value to the customer, support business objectives and growth, mitigate risk and are certified and developed in accordance with the regulatory requirements.
