JOB OVERVIEW

The Shift Lead is considered an expert in the Mechanical trade. The Shift Lead has advanced technical and company specific knowledge, and is a trusted troubleshooter with strong leadership and management skills. The Shift Lead will run the crew in an efficient, effective and safe manner. This position is primarily a hands-on production position, focused on staff operations with some administrative tasks.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITY

Technical

•Completes daily inspections

•Performs independent critical and non-critical systems checks

•Engages in advanced trouble shooting on multiple aircraft types

•Identifies, obtains, uses and tests appropriate tools for the jobs

•Receives and departs aircraft

•Safely operates all ground equipment

•Clears up log book snags

•Tows aircraft - has performed all positions

•Releases aircraft for flight

Supervision and Developing Others

•Engages team members and delegates work assignments to team members

•Ensures team members remain tasked and achieve task card and NR estimates

•Ensures employees understand required technical information for task completion, testing and inspection; and tests for understanding

•Ensures quality and quantity of crew members task completion

•Ensures team members comply with all applicable policies and procedures

•Provides on the job training, mentoring and coaching to AME's and AME apprentices

•Reviews team members performance and make recommendations for wage increases

•Monitors performance of contractors assigned to crew

•Acts as crew resource for company information & responds to concerns & requests

Safety

•Ensures all crew members and non-crew members wear appropriate PPE

•Understands, applies and promotes the Risk Management System

•Understands, applies and promotes Health and Safety Policies

•Understands, applies and promotes safe handling practices with the aircraft

•Maintains high level of housekeeping / cleanliness

•Actively looks for opportunities to ensure and improve the safety of the crew and others

Documentation & Administration

•Provides clear and detailed shift handovers to other teams and shifts.

•Provides progress updates and technical feedback during daily hangar meetings

•Approves Snags, NR and estimate changes

•Ensures appropriate technical documentation is completed accurately and on time for own work and for the work of other crew members as required in areas where they are endorsed

•Sources required technical information in aircraft maintenance manuals in an accurate and timely manner (or hands off when in-depth)

•Ensures all company tools are properly managed

REQUIREMENTS

Certification & Experience

  • Post-Secondary education in a recognized Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Program
  • Six (6) to Eight (8) years of experience working as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in Maintenance
  • Transport Canada License and ACA preferred
  • Thorough understanding of Transport Canada regulations
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a Restricted Airside Identification Card (RAIC) and Ground Operating License (AVOP's)
